I believe though time can appear to go backward or forward, all time is occurring now.
Here are a few examples of time travelling.
Before I started sharing my experiences on the Internet, I was inspired to do so from within. When I pointed out to myself that I didn't have the resources nor did I know what to write about, I told myself that everything I needed was already available, I simply needed to trust in myself. Since then I have written thousands of articles which I've posted on the Internet. You could say, in order to accomplish my mission, I had to travel to my future self who had already had the experience.
Just recently I received an email from a reader who wanted to thank me for an article I wrote six years ago. It's interesting that when the piece was first published, although the reader and I were experiencing the same present i.e. 2004, he had no desire to read it as it was obviously not pertinent to his life experience until six years later in 2010. Thus, the reader is time travelling from the future to the past.
I also find there are times when I have to revisit experiences I'd written about years ago to help me resolve situations now i.e. 2010. In other words, I'm time travelling from the future to the past.
The above examples I've shared are conscious time travelling. There are times when you can be doing unconscious time travelling.
In the movie, Sex and the City 2, although Carrie is now married to the man of her dreams, she's still not happy as she's discovered that her idea of a good night out is going out, while John's idea of a good night out is staying in and watching black and white movies. Because they've decided not to have kids, this means they are going to be spending a whole lot of time together either indoors or being in disagreement.
When Samantha invites Carrie and her two friends to spend a week in Abu Dhabi, Carrie jumps at the opportunity to have fun with the girls. During the trip, Carrie bumps into her past love, Aidan, the man she almost married, and they go out to dinner. Then one thing leads to another and they end up kissing. Carrie is appalled at what has happened and feels so guilty she immediately confides in her friends and asks for their advice. Even though she's advised not to say anything or to at least sleep on it before she tells her husband, Carrie decides to call John and confess all. Although John forgives her, he gets her to make a vow that she will only kiss him and no one else.
I believe the reason why Carrie had time travelled to her past life i.e. attracted Aidan was because she was too busy dreaming about her past life. Since Aidan and Carrie are both married they had no future anyway. It was only when Carrie realised that she already had all she ever dreamed of in the present that she was able to focus on the present.
The reverse is also true. Sometimes one can be in a relationship that is long dead and belongs to the "past" but for whatever reason you are still holding on to that relationship. Therefore, while you appear to be moving into the future, in truth you keep revisiting the past.
I believe time travelling is simply a shift of focus and is occurring all the time consciously or unconsciously.
